June 2010
During the International Co-ordinators' Meeting on Monday, it was regretfully agreed not to proceed with plans for holding the International Gathering in Nepal during 2010.
Included amongst the reasons for this decision, which was disappointing to us all, was the lack of technology to enable suitable communication between Nepal and the rest of the organising committee and the time and expense that will be needed to get participants to and from the venue. Because of the political uncertainty earlier in the year many people had ceased planning to attend so it was estimated that the number of participants would have been very small. We would like to have made the IG a valuable experience for communities in Nepal, but there seemed little opportunity for workshops before or after the gathering.
The AVP group in Nepal is very small. Thank you to Subhash, Rupa and Ken for the investigations and preparations that they had made.
We are looking forward to holding a great IG in some country during 2011. Several countries have already expressed an interest in being the host. The committee is excited about these possibilities, but also interested in hearing of any other offers.
